Artesonraju and Alpamayo

As I said on the Pisco / Huascarán page, the view from Pisco is nothing short of amazing. We are looking NE in this photo towards Artesonraju and Alpamayo (behind). In the sun on Artesonraju is the south face a classic long snow/ice slope. This face was the site of the start of South American extreme skiing with a descent by (I think) PatrickVallençant in the 70s.

The normal route on Alpamayo climbs from below on the right and gains a saddle between Alpamayo and Quitaraju, which is just out of view to the left. This is the location of high camp. From here the route crosses the glacier on the far side of the col and climbs steeply up the middle of the shadowed face.
